The Man from the Ice

More than 9000 years ago, stone-aged hunters already settled in the Inner Ötztal. On Sept. 19, 1991 – a magic date – a mummy was found on the Hauslabjoch, which soon became a worldwide sensation The discovery of the man from the ice known as “Ötzi” has started off a new chapter in the history of the Ötztal.

 

The Power Of Water

The waterfalls and the Ötztaler Ache show their irrepressibly power, especially during the thawing period. This is the high season for canyoning, rafting, kayaking and canoeing.

 

Challenge: Mountain

Sports in the mountains are absolutely trendy. Currently, it is Nordic Walking and High Tech. Hiking experiences a new revival and there a million opportunities. The whole mountain range has about 250 three-thousand meter peaks, about 60 of which are higher than 3400 m.

 

Outdoor-Arena Ötztal

From the beginning to the end of the valley nature has built a huge, 65 km long outdoor arena for sportsmen and fans of action. There are no limits for activities: guided tours at high altitudes, hiking programs for all desires. For every sport there are training courses for beginners, intermediate and advanced learners.

 

Skiing Pleasure Above 3000 Meters

Snow-sure skiing area, 300 km of dream ski slopes, modern cable cars and ski-lifts, 150 km of well-prepared cross-country ski tracks, 200 km of winter walking trails, entertainment in bars, restaurants ...

 

Lived Tradition

Even today life in the country is characterized by religious holidays and traditions, which are still celebrated on the day fixed by the calendar. Even the museums in the valley show lived history and yesterday’s culture, which are strongly linked with the present day.
